Adventures for Ravenlonft Tournaments

What is the Owl Campaign?

For two years, in Fantasy Shop's (a big Greek Distributor and franchising chain of Hobby Game stores) fairs, I was responsible for the organisation of the d20 tournaments.

This was a great means to promote a line I love much (we were promoting Sword & Sorcery's lines anyway): Ravenloft. Together with great friends, we built actually a campaign of 4 separate adventures.
Each one was self-contained, but players who knew the history had the emotional reward of seeing the characters evolve. The team that won determined the storyline.

These adventures are finally presented here, using the Open Game License. Sorry, they are in greek for the biggest part.

Note that some few material taken from Arthaus Ravenloft 3.0 and 3.5 books is included in the adventures to help the GMs. Still though, the adventures require Ravenloft's Player Handbook, published by Arthaus.

Please note that I do not have the character sheets of the ready PCs available. If anyone has kept them and can scan them, please contact me.

I: Η Κατάρα της Dominia

In the first part of the campaign, the players are faced with a crime and an ancient curse in a remote asylum.
The challenge comes from the obligation to find with unconventional means, and from picking correctly your battles.
This adventure is EXTREMELY difficult - considered adjusting it if you want to use as part of an ongoing campaign.

Still on our first steps in Ravenloft, we used Dominia, making it non canon - you can just pick any other isle or change the timeline to the future to suit canon.
The adventure also has some small rule errors.

II: Searching for the Queen of Plague

The first part was successfull, leading to a sold out 2nd tournament (but as we saw later, the real factor determining how many people come is the day of year and the weather).
This time we experimented with even strangest options: the mystery was open, the villain was determined randomly by the draw of a Tarokka.
What worked quite well was the fact that in game and out of game time were one and the same - and with reason. This led to a frantic pacing.

I want to think the 4 girls and 2 boys in my team who provided one of the best gaming sessions of my life.

III: Poison, lies and chaos

Well, this time we had great plans. We put tons of effort. And yet we had suddenly much fewer persons in the tournament.
Anyway, I consider this part my best written down adventure (as opposed to be just notes of an adventure which I played with my group) up to this date.
Darkangel quit for this part after giving some nice ideas, but I used ideas of Pyrros and Alexandros. This part also featured a flyer - an idea stolen by George Panagopoulos.

Now to the point: here the players have a WHOLE CITY in their disposal. No immediate hint of how to solve the problems. Actually it was not 100% evident what their problems were at the start of the session
Oh, no, it was even worst: there were characters with extremely, even traitorously, differnet agendas in their midst.

It was a receipt for chaos. All this freedom and the great narrators provided amazing moments of laughter. It was one of the times where I saw PvP working for almost everyon's fun.

IV: Out of your Bodies

I had told that if this time we have no much people I would quit. I quitted.
Well at least we had a tournament (with one table) - the Vampire tournament simply didn't work. I think that Fantasy Shop Fair hadn't an RPG tournament since.
It's a pity, Kaissa one had always successful fairs.

The story: the group was left some steps before the door of Ivana Boritsi last time. But the traitor had managed to inform her of their coming.
Ivana poisoned them to sleep and put them to prison. That's when the return of Darkang3l was felt: a sudden twist of events makes the players switch bodies with carrionettes
By changing a bit the rules about carrionettes, we created a very different senario: most like an andventure in Wonderland, where the players had to accomodate for their small size.

The group had a tragic end: one had to collaborate with Ivana, one other barely escaped from the cat... A pity. But we had fun :)
